Europe: 49 nations

Europe is the densest of the named continental maps: 49 nations by default, packed into a landmass you can cross in a few minutes of panning.

A Europe match at the client's minimum zoom, 2026-11-03: the map ends inside the window on every side, with 49 nations' territories already touching.
What this shows why the number matters: this is the whole map, and it is small enough that everyone's border is someone else's border from turn one.Captured 2026-11-03Client v42.5Plate 1

49 nations on one continent

Every named country-shaped map in the picker is a guess at how crowded a match should feel; Europe 49 is the crowded one. At the first minute of our run the leaderboard already had four nations above 0% and the borders were touching along the whole map.

The classic variant halves it

Europe (classic) defaults to 31, not 49. Same geography, fewer nations, longer survival. If a 49-nation Europe feels like being born in a fistfight, that variant is the same continent with room to build.

The pattern is useful: the smaller the landmass, the fewer nations, and the more of the game is about a single border. Europe 49 is a many-front problem; Italia 12 is a two-front one.

When to pick it

Pick it to learn what a crowded start feels like, or to test an opening that assumes contact from turn one. Do not pick it for a first match: 49 nations plus 400 bots is the least forgiving configuration in the picker, and the tutorial will not tell you that.

Why the 31 matters more than the 49

The two Europe cards differ by eighteen nations and by nothing the client prints. Same landmass, same shape, same rules; the classic variant simply starts with fewer countries competing for it, so each one begins with more room. If a guide tells you to learn the game on Europe, ask which Europe.

One more thing the picker keeps to itself: the cards you see are not the whole list. The second tab holds community maps, and the public rotation runs maps that never appear in single player at all — we watched a lobby play one.

What this page does not claim

We did not measure gold or troop rates per map, so nothing here says Europe pays faster than Italia. The only per-map number on this site is the nation count, because that is the only one the client prints.
